What’s Happening Around the Lake
That Greek Place: new and nice in downtown Carmel
Two sisters from Greece have opened a small and lovely taverna, That Greek Place, in downtown Carmel at 3 Fair Street, up the hill from and on the same side of the street as the post office. The sisters’ mother can be around too, as well as at least one daughter. The mountain tea was hand-picked by one of the sisters in Greece. One can park in a lot behind; the pass-through to the lot is to the right. https://www.thatgreekplace.com/ 631-237-7646 ________________________________ Just around the corner from That Greek Place: Florrie Kaye’s Tearoom Looking for a sidewalk/street-facing place to lunch, snack,

Trader Joe’s is open, just off the Taconic: exit 17a
Trader Joe’s opened a new store this past August — it’s right there, just off the Taconic — at exit 17a (Route 202), in Yorktown Heights. It’s across a parking lot from a Lowe’s Hardware, and next to a large Starbucks. Across Route 22 is a gas station. According to Google Maps, the TJ’s is only 16 miles south of the lake, as the car drives.
New Path Avoids Rt. 301
For those who trek around Lake Sagamore, you no longer need to take a single step on Route 301! The Parkland Committee has marked and cleared a new trial between Sagamore Drive and Forest Court, thus hikers and joggers can avoid 301. Hikers enter (or emerge) from the trail near the yellow speed sign on Sagamore Drive near 301 and emerge (or enter) the trail about mid way on Forest Court. Orange ribbons on trees mark the trail. Walking Around Lake Sagamore: The Official Misguided Guide
Harry Azorin, a particularly alert neighbor, has some observations about walking around Lake Sagamore. For example he writes, I’VE HEARD I NEED A WALKING STICK. DO I? You heard wrong. You were told you need a walking SHTICK. All seasoned Lake Sagamore residents have one. It’s HOW they walk around the lake. You should have one too. Think about Bogart’s dangling cigarette. The stooped walk of Groucho Marx. Michael Jackson’s moonwalk. Shtick! Shtick! Shtick! But don’t use any of those shticks. They’re already taken. So find your own schtick. And a nice walking stick, too. For more of Harry’s observations click here!
Lake Quality
The quality of the lake water is excellent in terms of swimming, boating and general aesthetics. Princeton Hydro conducted a single water quality monitoring event and aquatic plant survey on Lake Sagamore on August 28, 2018. The report notes: The continuation of excellent water quality in the lake is due to the largely undisturbed watershed which consists primarily of forest and secondarily of low-density residential. The lack of abundant macrophytes is associated with the management of the lake through the use of sterile grass carp. Annual monitoring of the lake, following the lake rules and procedures to protect the lake like
